State Construction Inspectors on Campus December 1 - 12, 2014

Building Condition Assessments December 1st - 12th, 2014
Monday, December 1, 2014 - 2:33pm

Inspectors from the State Construction Office will be on campus for the next two weeks.  You may notice them in your building checking HVAC systems, wall structures and condition, roof condition, etc.  Inspections take approximately 15 minutes.

Why Inspect?

Regular inspections help identify problems that will require state-appropriated funds to mitigate.  By having a third-party inspector from the State Construction Office, the legislature can be assured that conditions are, in fact, being accurately reported by Appalachian State's Physical Plant.

Third party inspectors are policy-neutral, methodical, standarized and consistent.  The inspectors visiting our campus visit state buildings all over North Carolina.  This assures a level of consistency in inspection reports.

Should We Be Nervous?

Absolutely not!  This is a great service provided by the state.  We do not "pass" or "fail" inspections of this type.  Instead, inspectors review and assess a facility's key components and systems in order to define problems and develop cost estimates.

What Can I Do To Assist?

Not a thing.  Inspectors will be escorted by Physical Plant employees who will lock and unlock doors.  Inspectors will visit over 25 buildings on campus during the next two weeks.

Since we're nearing exam time, inspectors will be visiting academic buildings on their roster first--that way your classes will not be interrupted during exams.
