Poplar Grove Connector - Closure Map

Thanks to Bill Fisher at www.goblueridge.net for writing the following:

The Department of Transportation will be closing Poplar Grove Road next week.

Kevin Whittington of the Watauga office of the Department of Transportation District 2 has announced the closure will be starting at 8am Tuesday September 5th through Thursday September 7th at 5pm, weather permitting, to replace a drainage pipe under the road.

Whittington said the closure will be 6/10th of a mile south of the Poplar Grove Connector.

According to Whittington, the pipe is separated and must be replaced, and it will take several days because the pipe is so deep.

Note from Physical Plant to Kalmia Acres, The Meadows, Mountaineer, and App Heights Residents

The DOT let us know that Poplar Grove Road will be closed to traffic in both directions while the repair work takes place.  Residents of The Meadows and Kalmia Acres will still have access to their homes from 105.  Residents of Appalachian Heights and Mountaineer will still have access to their residence halls from the Poplar Grove if drivers approach from campus rather than 105.

The closure will be between The Meadows subdivision and the back entrance to App Heights.

More Encouraging Words for Football Fans

The DOT is aware of Appalachian State University's home football game on Saturday the 9th and wants everyone to breathe easy.  The repair will be completed before Saturday and the road will be re-opened in time for tailgaters to get to The Rock.  Go Apps!!
