NRLP/Appstate Plants 100 Trees - April 20th, 2015

Monday, April 20, 2015 - 9:33am

The week of April 20th will be eventful for the town of Boone as Appstate plants 100 trees along the Greenway Trail and in Jimmy Smith Park.

Wait-  A Power Company is PLANTING Trees?

NRLP 100 Year tshirtNew River Light and Power, a division of Appalachian State, is celebrating 100 years of providing power to campus and the surrounding community by donating 100 trees.  Volunteers from the community and students from Appalachian State are joining the university's landscaping team to get the trees tucked into holes that have been pre-dug.

What do you call a tree in the city?

It's not a punchline, it's actually called an "Urban Forest" and Urban Forests are a huge benefit to our community by providing habitats for native birds and insects and cutting down on carbon emissions from cars and buses.  Plus trees are a beautiful addition to our Greenway Trail providing shade and shelter in the summer.

Thank you, volunteers

Students, staff and community members from all walks of life are bringing gloves and picking up shovels to give these trees the best possible start in life.
